March 2012

You are currently browsing the monthly archive for March 2012.

I am very pleased to be able to invite you to come and get your allotment!

Members of the committee will be at the allotments on Saturday 31st March between 10.00 am and 12.00 pm and on Sunday 1st April between 12.00 pm and 2.00 pm to welcome you and to show you your plot.  Please print out the tenancy agreement on the website, complete it as far as possible, and bring it with you along with your payment - cash or cheques, please.  Cheques payable to Gravel Pit Allotment Association.

We had hoped to be able to offer plots for £25 a year.  Unfortunately, our insurance costs have been far greater than expected and we have had to increase plot rents to £40 a year.  This will be payable in one go in April or, if you prefer, you can pay £20 in April and a further £20 in October.

If you are unable to come along on Saturday 31st March between 10.00 am and 12.00 pm and on Sunday 1st April between 12.00 pm and 2.00 pm then please post your agreement to me with your payment.  Please note that you will not be able to start gardening until we have received your agreement and payment.

Our Consitution and Policies (Environmental and Sustainability Policy, Health and Safety policy, Equal Opportunities Policy) are available to read on the website, but if you have any queries please feel free to contact me.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Secretary, Gravel Pit Allotments Association

Compost bins start to arrive for the allotments

An early start again today, Suzanne (Chairperson), Andrew (her partner), Will (Chair’s Son), Myself and Lindsey (my partner) continue to lay the turf. The turf will form the walkways around the allotments.

Today we’ve completed laying all 326 turfs that arrived on 5 pallets, we’ve been raking, watering, weeding, levelling, and moving turf! We had to move the original turf strip, put down on Day 1, because we did not have enough turf for the middle strip!

(please do not walk on the grass, when visting the site, it’s been recently laid!)

An early start today, Suzanne (Chairperson), Andrew (her partner) and myself continue to lay the turf. The turf will form the walkways around the allotments.

Andrew has conducted many man hours of work for Gravel Pit Allotments Association. (levelling, dragging, digging, tree and hedge cutting, hedge laying, turf laying etc) - items that have been continuing in the background, possibly “unseen” that have helped the Association get to this position today.

So Andrew, if your reading - On behalf of Gravel Pit Allotments Association I would like to say a “Big Thank You!”.

Inturf delivered the turf at 9.30am today, so Suzanne (Chairperson), Denise (Secretary) and myself started to lay the turf. The turf will form the walkways around the allotments.

Road shavings distributed over the new car park area.

The new car park standing has been created to allow vistors with cars to park on-site and avoid parking in the car passing place, which is immediately opposite the entrance gate.

When visiting the allotments, could you please park in the car park.

I drove past the alloments today, and notice a pile of road shavings destined for the allotment car park. I do not think the contractor could get through the newly erected gate!

These road shavings have come from Feoffee Lane, where recent contractors have been performing road maintenance for East Riding of Yorkshire Council Highways.

The car park standing has been created to allow vistors with cars to park on-site and avoid parking in the car passing place, which is immediately opposite the entrance gate.

When visiting the allotments, could you please park in the car park.
