The GPAA Team!

The GPAA Team!

A Big Thanks to the following, who gave up their time on 1 December 2012 :-

  • Suzanne (Chairperson)
  • Stephen (Treasurer)
  • Anna
  • Carl
  • Kate
  • Chris
  • Stephen
  • Elaine

I think I can say, a good time was had by all!

We started completing the assembly of the frame at approx 9.00am, and then started to dig the trenches, (helped by Mr Mantis!) and dig the holes for the polytunnel legs, once the polytunnel frame was moved into position, anti hot spot tape was applied to the metal hoops to protect the polythenne cover, the polythenne cover was unwrapped, and pulled over the frame, and then buried in the trenches. We still need to complete the doors at either end, but the majority of work has been completed.

It was completed by approximately 13:00.

Here is a gallery of photos, I took….

Due to the bad weather and high winds forecast for Saturday 9th June 2012, the wind speed will prevent us covering the polytunnel frame. Postponed until a later date.

more showers arrived today….

The majority of the plots have now been taken and the allotments are slowly transforming, as holders start to cultivate their plots and plant fruit and vegetables. If you are interested in a plot, please contact us, we still have a few available.

But we’ve had another heavy April shower today, so I think it might be a few days, before any more planting occurs. I’m holding off waiting for my plot to dry out, so I can get my earlies potatoes planted, which may turn into a main crop, if the showers continue.

Promised snow today, but the allotments, just oustide the “snow zone” which fell on the Wolds in the background, although no snow, we’ve had heavy rain showers all day.

I am very pleased to be able to invite you to come and get your allotment!

Members of the committee will be at the allotments on Saturday 31st March between 10.00 am and 12.00 pm and on Sunday 1st April between 12.00 pm and 2.00 pm to welcome you and to show you your plot.  Please print out the tenancy agreement on the website, complete it as far as possible, and bring it with you along with your payment – cash or cheques, please.  Cheques payable to Gravel Pit Allotment Association.

We had hoped to be able to offer plots for £25 a year.  Unfortunately, our insurance costs have been far greater than expected and we have had to increase plot rents to £40 a year.  This will be payable in one go in April or, if you prefer, you can pay £20 in April and a further £20 in October.

If you are unable to come along on Saturday 31st March between 10.00 am and 12.00 pm and on Sunday 1st April between 12.00 pm and 2.00 pm then please post your agreement to me with your payment.  Please note that you will not be able to start gardening until we have received your agreement and payment.

Our Consitution and Policies (Environmental and Sustainability Policy, Health and Safety policy, Equal Opportunities Policy) are available to read on the website, but if you have any queries please feel free to contact me.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Secretary, Gravel Pit Allotments Association
